Netarsudil Dimesylate

Generic Medicine
Indications

Netarsudil ophthalmic solution is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients suffering from open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Pharmacology

Netarsudil is a Rho kinase inhibitor that acts at the cellular level within the trabecular outflow pathway by relaxing actin-myosin. This relaxation helps open the trabecular meshwork and the inner wall of Schlemm’s canal, thereby reducing episcleral venous pressure (EVP).

Dosage Administration

The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.

Interactions

This eye drop is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this preparation.

Side Effects

The most common ocular adverse reactions observed in controlled clinical studies with Netarsudil include conjunctival hyperemia, corneal verticillata, pain at the instillation site, corneal staining, and blurred vision.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Netarsudil ophthalmic solution in pregnant women to determine drug-related risk. However, systemic exposure after ocular use is low.

Lactation: There are no available data on the presence of Netarsudil in human milk, its effects on the breastfed infant, or its effects on milk production.

Pediatric Use Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below 18 years of age have not been established.

Use in Elderly Patients No overall differences in safety and effectiveness have been observed between elderly and other adult patients.

Precautions & Warnings

For ophthalmic use only. Avoid contamination by not touching the dropper tip to any surface. Netarsudil may be used with other topical ophthalmic drugs, but each should be administered at least 5 minutes apart. Contact lenses should be removed before instillation and may be reinserted 15 minutes after use.
