Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride (Nasal Preparation)
Generic MedicinePharmacology
Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride is an imidazoline derivative sympathomimetic amine. It acts as a direct agonist at alpha-adrenoceptors and has no activity on beta-adrenoceptors. When applied to the nasal mucosa, it produces rapid and long-lasting vasoconstriction of arterioles, reducing blood flow and decreasing mucosal swelling. This leads to improved airway patency and better sinus drainage.
