Carbonyl Iron + Folic Acid + Zinc Sulfate + Vitamin B Complex + Vitamin C
Generic MedicineComposition
Each capsule contains elemental iron 50 mg (as carbonyl iron INN), zinc sulphate monohydrate BP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg zinc), folic acid BP 0.5 mg, nicotinamide BP 10 mg, riboflavin BP 2 mg, pyridoxine hydrochloride BP 1 mg, ascorbic acid USP 50 mg, and thiamine mononitrate BP 2 mg.
Pharmacology
This formulation provides carbonyl iron, which has high bioavailability, low toxicity, and better gastrointestinal tolerance, making it an effective and safe iron supplement. Folic acid plays an essential role in normal neural tube development and supports cell division during fetal growth. Vitamin B complex contributes to the proper growth and development of the fetus and supports metabolic functions. Vitamin C is important for collagen formation and improves iron absorption. Zinc is essential for fetal growth and development, supports central nervous system function, and promotes overall maternal and infant health.

Adult: One capsule daily before food or as directed by the physician.
Use in Children & Adolescents: Upon consultation with a doctor, recommended to use in children & adolescents.
Interactions
Carbonyl iron may reduce the absorption of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, as well as levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine when taken together. Folic acid may interact with antiepileptic medications, potentially lowering the plasma levels of drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.
Contraindications
This medication should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components. Iron therapy is also contraindicated in patients with hemolytic anemia.
Side Effects
Allergic reactions have been reported with folic acid. Oral iron preparations may cause constipation, particularly in elderly patients.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The use of medications during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided whenever possible. Iron supplementation during early pregnancy should be given only when iron deficiency is confirmed. Preventive supplementation with iron, folic acid, and zinc may be appropriate during the later stages of pregnancy, especially in cases of inadequate dietary intake.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution should be exercised in patients at risk of iron overload, such as those with hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red blood cell aplasia. Iron may bind with tetracycline, reducing the absorption of both when taken together.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, black or tarry stools, weakness, rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures.
