Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium ophthalmic solution is used as a lubricant to relieve irritation, dryness, and discomfort of the eyes caused by insufficient tear production or exposure to environmental factors such as wind and sunlight.
Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium
Generic MedicinePharmacology
Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium acts as an ocular lubricant that helps reduce symptoms associated with moderate to severe dry eye syndrome and provides long-lasting protection against dryness and irritation. It works similarly to natural tears by forming a protective layer over the ocular surface. Its effect is not receptor-mediated; instead, it increases the viscosity of the tear film, thereby enhancing the retention time of the eye drops and improving lubrication.
