Chlorhexidine Gluconate [1%]

Generic Medicine
Indications

Chlorhexidine Gluconate cream is used as an antiseptic and lubricant by healthcare professionals during examinations of pregnant women or for various gynecological procedures.

Chlorhexidine Gluconate dental gel is indicated for the management of gum inflammation (gingivitis). It helps eliminate harmful microorganisms present in the oral cavity and should be used according to the dentist’s instructions.

Pharmacology

Chlorhexidine is a potent cationic antimicrobial agent with broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its action may be bacteriostatic or bactericidal depending on the concentration. At higher concentrations, it exerts a bactericidal effect by binding to negatively charged bacterial cell walls and extracellular complexes, leading to cell destruction. At lower concentrations, it interferes with the osmotic balance of bacterial cells, resulting in leakage of essential intracellular components such as potassium and phosphorus.

Dosage Administration

This cream is used by healthcare professionals during a physical examination. Some will be spread onto the gloved hand of the examiner and some will be applied around the birth canal and perineum of the patient. This cream is for the use on the skin or vagina only.

Take this dental gel in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. This dental gel is an antiseptic that binds strongly to the surface of teeth, inner cheeks and gums. It works by killing the harmful microorganisms that cause swollen gums, tartar, bad odour from mouth, and other mouth infections.

Interactions

Consult a healthcare professional if you are using or have recently used any other medications. Hypochlorite-containing bleaches may cause brown stains on fabrics that have previously come into contact with chlorhexidine-containing products.
