It is a fast-acting antibacterial cleansing solution used before surgical procedures to eliminate infectious microorganisms from the hands. Regular use in hospital wards helps reduce the risk of cross-infection.

Contains 4% w/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate, equivalent to 20% v/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate solution BP.

Chlorhexidine is a potent cationic antimicrobial agent with a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It exhibits bacteriostatic or bactericidal action depending on its concentration. At higher concentrations, it produces a bactericidal effect by binding to negatively charged bacterial cell walls and extracellular complexes, leading to cell destruction. At lower concentrations, it disrupts the osmotic balance of bacterial cells, causing leakage of essential intracellular components such as potassium and phosphorus.

Hand disinfection before operation: Wet your hands with water. Take 5 ml of Savlon and scrub up to the wrists for 2 minutes. Use a brush or scraper to clean under the fingernails. Rinse hands with clean water. Repeat the process using Savlon again for another 2 minutes.

Hand disinfection in the ward: Wet your hands with water. Take 5 ml of Savlon and scrub hands and nails for 2 minutes. Wash with clean water and dry.

For infection prevention before operation: Use Savlon during bathing on the day of operation and the day before. Mix 25 ml Savlon in water. First wash the whole body with the diluted solution, then rinse with clean water. Repeat the process. Dry the body with a clean towel.

For infection prevention after operation: During bathing, wash the whole body except the operation site using the above method. This is usually done on the 3rd day after operation.

Do not use in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine Gluconate or any of its components
• Contact with the meninges
• Application in the middle ear
• Use on large open wounds of the head or face

Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, brain tissue, meninges, and middle ear. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water. Store away from light and at room temperature. Chlorhexidine may be incompatible with soaps and other anionic agents. For external use only.
