Rhubarb Extract + Salicylic Acid

Generic Medicine
Indications

This oral solution is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic inflammation of the mucosa of the mouth, gums, and throat, including aphthous ulcer, cold sore, gingivitis, periodontitis, dental hypersensitivity, dental plaque, and denture irritation.

Description

This oral solution has anti-inflammatory action in infections of the oral, gum, and throat mucosa. Its analgesic effect helps quickly reduce pain and sensitivity in inflamed tissues. It supports the restoration of normal mucosal function within a short time without damaging tissues. It is easy to use, painless, and well tolerated in individuals sensitive to iodine.

Composition

Each ml oral solution contains

  • Rhubarb extract BP 0.05 g (equivalent to anthraquinone glycosides 0.005 g)
  • and Salicylic acid BP 0.01 g.
Pharmacology

Salicylic acid acts by inhibiting the cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme, thereby reducing inflammation. Rhubarb extract contains anthraquinone glycosides that provide anti-inflammatory effects. The formulation is well absorbed through the oral mucosa.

Dosage Administration

Adults: To be applied to the inflamed oral mucosa (after removing any dentures) 3 to 4 times daily using the brush provided. Avoid rinsing the mouth or eating for 15 minutes after application. Always keep the cap closed immediately after every use.

Children: As per consultation with a registered physician, it is recommended below the age of 12 years.

Interactions

No known drug interactions have been documented with this preparation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Side Effects

A temporary burning sensation at the application site is very common. Temporary discoloration of teeth or oral mucosa may also occur after use.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Animal studies are insufficient regarding effects on pregnancy and fetal development. Potential risk to humans is unknown. Use with caution in pregnant women.

Lactation: Anthraquinone glycosides from rhubarb may pass into breast milk. It is not known whether these or salicylic acid are excreted in human milk at therapeutic doses. A decision should be made considering the benefit of breastfeeding for the child and the benefit of treatment for the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Each bottle should be used by only one person to avoid contamination.
