Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo is indicated for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, and associated inflammation and swelling of the scalp.

Ciclopirox Olamine is a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent that inhibits the growth of dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. It demonstrates fungicidal activity against organisms such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, and Candida albicans. The exact mechanism of action is not fully established, but it is believed to interfere with fungal cell metabolism by blocking the uptake of essential substrates and ions, leading to inhibition of growth and eventual cell death. In addition to antifungal activity, ciclopirox also exhibits antibacterial effects against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It possesses anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, as well as blocking enzymes such as 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase.

Wet hair and apply approximately 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo to the scalp. Up to 2 teaspoons (10 ml) may be used for long hair. Lather and leave on hair and scalp for 3 minutes. A timer may be used. Avoid contact with eyes. Treatment should be repeated twice per week for 4 weeks, with a minimum of 3 days between applications.

Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo is generally well tolerated, with a low incidence of adverse effects reported in clinical studies.

Pregnancy Category B. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human breast milk. As many drugs are excreted in breast milk, caution is advised when administered to breastfeeding women.

Ciclopirox Olamine Shampoo is intended for external use only and should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or intravaginally.

No adequate clinical studies have been conducted in individuals below 16 years of age.
