Clioquinol + Flumetasone Pivalate
Generic MedicinePharmacology
Flumetasone Pivalate is a potent difluorinated glucocorticoid intended for topical use. It provides anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictive, and anti-proliferative effects. In inflammatory conditions of the external auditory canal, it offers rapid relief from symptoms such as itching and helps reduce swelling.
Clioquinol is a halogenated hydroxyquinoline derivative with bacteriostatic properties. It is effective against a wide range of microorganisms, including fungi (such as Candida, Microsporum, and Trichophyton) and Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococci). It also shows activity against certain Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage Administration
For adults and children (aged 2 years and over): The recommended dose is 2 to 3 drops twice daily for the prescribed period of time (usually not longer than 10 days). Before you apply the medication, you should warm the ear drops to body temperature by holding the bottle in the palm of your hands. Do not heat it above body temperature.
Interactions
Topical use of clioquinol may increase protein-bound iodine (PBI) levels in patients with normal thyroid function, which can interfere with certain thyroid function tests such as PBI, radioactive iodine uptake, and butanol-extractable iodine tests. These tests should be avoided for at least one month after using this ear drop. Other tests like the T3 resin sponge test or T4 determination are not affected by clioquinol.
