Indications

Ophthalmic use: Prevention of acute allergic conjunctivitis, seasonal conjunctivitis, and vernal keratoconjunctivitis.

Nasal use: Used for the prevention and symptomatic treatment of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. For prophylaxis in seasonal allergic rhinitis, treatment should be started 2–3 weeks before allergen exposure and continued throughout the allergy season.

Description

Sodium Cromoglicate is an antiallergic medicine used to prevent allergic symptoms. It acts by stabilizing mast cells and preventing the release of chemical mediators responsible for allergic reactions.

Pharmacology

Sodium Cromoglicate works by inhibiting the degranulation of sensitized mast cells following exposure to specific antigens. It blocks the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cell membranes. It has no antihistaminic or vasoconstrictor activity.

Dosage Administration

For eyes: For Child and Adult: 1 to 2 drops into each eye 2 to 3 times daily.

For nose: For Child and Adult: 1 drop to each nostril 2 to 3 times daily

Interactions

No evidence of clinically significant interaction with other drugs has been observed.

Contraindications

This eye drop is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Sodium Cromoglicate.

Side Effects

Temporary stinging or burning sensation may occur after instillation. Rarely, other local irritation symptoms have been reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Sodium Cromoglicate should be used during pregnancy only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. No harmful effects have been reported in breastfeeding mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

This eye drop contains benzalkonium chloride; therefore, contact lenses should not be worn during treatment.

Overdose Effects

Overdose is unlikely. If accidentally swallowed, symptomatic treatment should be given.

Storage Conditions

Store at room temperature, protected from light. Discard any remaining solution 4 weeks after opening. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination.
