Sodium Fusidate cream is used to treat skin conditions caused by bacterial infection, such as:
Sodium Fusidate is an antibiotic derived from Fusidium coccineum and shows strong activity against several Gram-positive organisms. Staphylococci, including strains resistant to penicillin and other antibiotics, are particularly sensitive to it. The effectiveness of topical Sodium Fusidate is due to both its strong antibacterial activity against skin pathogens and its ability to penetrate intact skin.
Fusidic acid works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It blocks the translocation step by stabilizing the ribosome–elongation factor G complex, preventing aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the ribosome and thereby stopping further amino acid addition to the growing protein chain.
