Generic Medicine
Indications

This drug is indicated to increase tear production in patients with reduced tear secretion due to ocular inflammation associated with dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca).

Pharmacology

Cyclosporine sterile ophthalmic solution acts as an immunomodulatory agent. It helps increase tear production in patients whose tear secretion is reduced due to ocular surface inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

Dosage Administration

Instill one drop of this drug twice a day in each eye approximately 12 hours apart. It can be used concomitantly with artificial tears, allowing a 15-minute interval between products.

Pediatric Use: The safety and efficacy of cyclosporine ophthalmic Solution have not been established in pediatric patients below the age of 18.

Contraindications

Cyclosporine is contraindicated in patients with active ocular infections and in those with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category C. Adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women are not available. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Cyclosporine is known to be excreted in breast milk after systemic use, but its excretion following topical ophthalmic use is not well studied. Although systemic absorption after eye drop use is minimal, caution should be taken when administering to breastfeeding women.
