Description

Undenatured Collagen II is a structural protein found in cartilage, bones, and other connective tissues. Like all collagen, it consists of three amino acid chains—glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline—forming a triple-helix structure.

Undenatured Collagen II is a nutritional supplement derived from chicken sternum cartilage using a patented, low-temperature, non-enzymatic process that preserves its natural triple-helix structure and biological activity.

Boswellic acid is the active constituent of Boswellia serrata, known for its significant anti-inflammatory activity in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory disorders. Studies show that 3-O-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA) present in Boswellia serrata extract strongly inhibits the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX).

Hyaluronic Acid has strong water-binding capacity, forming a viscous, gel-like substance. This provides joint lubrication and shock absorption. It also supports cartilage and bone growth by promoting new cell and tissue formation and helps reduce inflammation and pain associated with injury or degeneration.Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps prevent oxidative stress-induced damage to chondrocytes. It is also essential for tissue growth and repair, including collagen synthesis required for skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.

Pharmacology

Collagen II acts as an antigen that induces an immune response leading to the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Undenatured Collagen II works through a unique mechanism called oral tolerization. Its active epitopes interact with Peyer’s patches in the small intestine, stimulating the release of collagen-specific regulatory T-cells. These T-cells migrate to joint tissues and help regulate immune responses by suppressing T-cell activation. This reduces macrophage-mediated collagenase enzyme release, thereby slowing cartilage breakdown. It also decreases inflammatory cytokine production, reduces inflammation, prevents cartilage erosion, and supports cartilage regeneration. It improves joint function, mobility, flexibility, and may enhance knee extension and range of motion. It also helps relieve exercise-induced joint pain. Chicken collagen may also contain chondroitin and glucosamine, which support cartilage repair. Boswellia serrata resin contains monoterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, tetracyclic triterpenic acids, and four major pentacyclic triterpenic acids including β-boswellic acid, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid, and acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid, which inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes. Hyaluronic acid binds to CD44 receptors, reduces pro-inflammatory signaling, and enhances lubrication and shock absorption within joints. Vitamin C enhances hydroxylation of proline, increases procollagen synthesis, and supports bone mineral density.

Dosage Administration

Orally, 1 capsule daily after a meal with water or as directed by the physician.

Interactions

Caution should be exercised when Hyaluronic Acid, Boswellia Serrata, and Vitamin C are used concomitantly with anticoagulants. Hyaluronic Acid may affect the gastrointestinal absorption of certain antibiotics. This combination may be used together with analgesics or anti-inflammatory drugs.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Undenatured Collagen II, Hyaluronic Acid, Boswellia Serrata, or Vitamin C. It is not recommended for patients under 12 years of age, patients with phenylketonuria, or severe renal insufficiency. Dose adjustment of antidiabetic medications may be required as Boswellia Serrata may lower blood glucose levels.

Side Effects

Generally well tolerated at the recommended dose. Occasionally mild epigastric pain, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, nausea, headache, and visual disturbance may occur.
