Indications

This combination is indicated for the treatment of all types of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), including IBS-C, IBS-D, and IBS-A.

Pharmacology

This combination contains Ispaghula Husk and Mebeverine Hydrochloride, specially formulated for the management of IBS. Painful intestinal spasms and irregular bowel habits are common symptoms of IBS, and this preparation helps relieve these symptoms effectively. Ispaghula Husk contains approximately 70% soluble fiber and 30% insoluble fiber. It can absorb up to 40 times its own weight in water. This property helps increase dietary fiber, supports efficient digestive function, and naturally relieves bowel problems while helping restore and maintain regular bowel movement. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic medicine that helps relieve spasms and cramps in the intestine that cause abdominal pain, without affecting normal intestinal movement.

Dosage Administration

Ispaghula Husk and Mebeverine Hydrochloride is intended for oral use as a suspension in a drink of water. The granules of the sachet should be stirred into a glass of water and taken as soon as the effervescence subsides.

Adults and children over 12 years: One sachet in the morning and one in the evening with 1 glass of water. This medicine should be taken before half an hour of meal. A midday dose may be taken if necessary.

Interactions

Ispaghula Husk may delay gastric emptying and reduce the absorption of Calcium, Iron, and Zinc. Therefore, other medicines should be taken at least one hour before or a few hours after taking Ispaghula Husk and Mebeverine.

Contraindications

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients, intestinal obstruction, fecal impaction, or phenylketonuria.

Side Effects

Ispaghula Husk and Mebeverine Hydrochloride are generally well tolerated. However, some patients may experience mild abdominal bloating or flatulence during the first few days of treatment. These symptoms usually decrease with continued use.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Ispaghula Husk is not absorbed into the bloodstream and does not pass into breast milk, whereas Mebeverine Hydrochloride is absorbed into the bloodstream and may pass into breast milk. Therefore, this medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless considered essential by the physician.

Precautions & Warnings

Do not take this medicine without water. Each dose of granules should be mixed properly in a glass of water before administration.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of overdose with Ispaghula Husk and Mebeverine may include abdominal discomfort and flatulence. In case of overdose, the patient should drink plenty of water.
