Psyllium fiber and standardized Senna extract are indicated for the treatment of
Each spoonful (5.38 gm) of this effervescent powder contains Psyllium fiber 3.5 gm and standardized Senna extract equivalent to Sennoside B 7.5 mg as active ingredients.
Psyllium Fiber and Senna Extract have well-documented laxative effects. Psyllium (Plantago ovata) acts as a bulk-forming laxative due to its mucilage content, while Senna (Cassia angustifolia) acts as a stimulant laxative containing hydroxyanthracene glycosides (sennoside B). When mixed with water, the powder forms an orange-colored flavored drink. Psyllium absorbs water and increases stool bulk, while Senna stimulates intestinal muscles to promote bowel movement. Their combined action enhances intestinal transit, increases water absorption, and improves stool consistency. This combination helps relieve constipation and supports normal bowel function. It also provides easier bowel evacuation with soft stool, which is beneficial for patients suffering from hemorrhoids (piles), post-rectal surgery conditions, and colon-related disorders. It has a soothing effect on gastric and intestinal mucosa and may help reduce irritation and ulceration. Additionally, it may help support normal serum cholesterol and blood glucose levels.
Adults and children over 12 years old: 1-2 spoonful at night with at least 150 ml water or as directed by physician. Intake of additional water will be helpful. This can be taken with fruit juice, milk and warm drink. And should not be taken until ½ to 1 hour after intake of other medications. Continuous use for more than 2 weeks requires medical supervision.
Chronic use may cause potassium deficiency, which may increase the effect of cardiac glycosides and may influence the action of antiarrhythmic drugs. Potassium deficiency may be further increased by simultaneous use of thiazide diuretics and corticoadrenal steroids. A reduction in insulin dose may be necessary for insulin-dependent diabetic patients. The absorption of concurrently administered drugs may also be delayed.
This preparation is contraindicated in patients with pathological narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal obstruction, poorly controlled diabetes mellitus, acute inflammatory intestinal diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, appendicitis, and abdominal pain of unknown origin. It is also contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.
Occasionally allergic reactions may occur. Chronic use may lead to loss of electrolytes, especially potassium, which is reversible upon discontinuation.
Use is recommended, but special precaution should be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Drink immediately after preparation. Keep the container tightly closed after each use.
Overdose may disturb electrolyte and water balance in the body.
