Indications

Composition

Each 5 ml of Basaka Syrup contains extract of:

  • Adhatoda vasica – 0.68 gm
  • Glycyrrhiza glabra – 6.78 mg
  • Zingiber officinale – 6.78 mg
  • Cinnamomum zeylanicum – 6.78 mg
  • Elettaria cardamomum – 6.78 mg
  • Piper longum – 0.14 gm
  • Terminalia chebula – 0.073 gm
  • Saussurea lappa – 6.78 mg
  • Piper nigrum – 6.78 mg
  • Syzygium aromaticum – 6.78 mg
  • Cinnamomum tamala – 6.78 mg
  • Myrica nagi – 6.78 mg
  • Pistacia integerrima – 6.78 mg.
Pharmacology

Basaka Syrup is a carefully formulated herbal combination designed for the management of both dry irritating cough and productive cough. It is effective, well tolerated, safe, and non-sedating, with beneficial anti-allergic and anti-asthmatic properties. Being sugar-free, it is suitable for a wide range of patients, including both children and adults. It does not commonly cause drowsiness, constipation, or dryness of the mouth.

Adhatoda vasica (Basak): Contains the alkaloids vasicine and vasicinone, which help soothe throat irritation and act as expectorants by loosening mucus in the respiratory tract.

Glycyrrhiza glabra (Jashthi Modhu): Rich in glycyrrhizin, it is traditionally used to relieve cough and soothe sore throat.

Zingiber officinale (Ginger): Widely used for managing colds, asthma, and bronchitis. It also exhibits antiviral activity against human respiratory syncytial virus.

Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Darchini): Contains phenolic compounds and flavonoids with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Elettaria cardamomum (Elach): Provides anthraquinones, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, and glycosides that possess antiseptic, expectorant, antispasmodic, and antioxidant effects. It is beneficial in respiratory tract infections, asthma, and bronchitis.

Piper longum (Pipul): Contains piplartine, which helps suppress cough. Other constituents such as piperine and piperlongumine contribute to the management of chronic bronchitis, cough, and asthma.

Terminalia chebula (Haritaki): Traditionally used for treating fever, cough, diarrhea, gastroenteritis, skin infections, and wound infections.

Saussurea lappa (Kur): Acts as an effective expectorant and provides support in bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory disorders by relaxing the bronchioles and facilitating easier breathing.

Piper nigrum (Gol Morich): Contains piperine, a pungent alkaloid known for its antioxidant, anti-asthmatic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and antibacterial activities.

Syzygium aromaticum (Labanga): Contains flavonoids such as kaempferol, rhamnetin, and beta-caryophyllene that offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Clove oil also acts as an expectorant by clearing respiratory passages.

Cinnamomum tamala (Tejpata): Rich in polyphenols that help strengthen the immune system while providing antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects.

Myrica nagi (Katphala): Traditionally used for asthma, cough, chronic bronchitis, ulcers, anemia, fever, diarrhea, and disorders affecting the ear, nose, and throat.

Pistacia integerrima (Kakra Shringi): Contains alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and sterols with antimicrobial, antioxidant, and analgesic properties. It also assists in clearing mucus from the airways, bronchi, lungs, and trachea.

Dosage Administration

Children under 12 years:1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 ml) 3 times daily

Adult: 3 teaspoonfuls (15 ml) 2-3 times daily or as directed by the physician.

In acute cough: warm water can be added for better result.

Contraindications

No established contraindications have been reported for Basaka Syrup. However, individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to any of its ingredients should avoid using this preparation.

Basaka Syrup is generally well tolerated when taken at the recommended dosage. No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported.
