Pharmacology
Terminalia chebula (Haritaki): It contains several chemical constituents including chebulin, chebulagic acid, chebulinic acid, arginine, proline etc. It helps reduce swollen hemorrhoidal tissue. Its astringent property also helps control bleeding associated with piles. It may also help relieve constipation, a common trigger for piles.
Piper longum (Pipul): It contains several chemical constituents including piperine, piperlongumine, piperlonguminine, myristicin, safrole, eugenol, longamide etc. It acts as a carminative, helping reduce gas and bloating, and as a stomachic, improving digestion. Better digestion helps prevent constipation, a common cause of piles. It also has mild laxative action, helping soften stools and ease bowel movements. This reduces straining and the risk of developing piles. It also possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, which may help relieve pain associated with piles.
Mesua ferrea (Nageshwar): Mesua ferrea has been found to be effective in improving ano-rectal conditions and reducing bleeding and pain in Grade I and II hemorrhoid patients.
