Indications

Ashokarista is indicated in premenstrual syndrome, menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhoea, and dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

Description

Ashokarista is a poly-herbal formulation made from a combination of time-tested medicinal plants with proven efficacy as a uterine tonic. It has a stimulatory effect on ovarian tissue, helping regulate endogenous hormonal secretion, enhancing endometrial repair, and controlling abnormal uterine bleeding. Its anti-inflammatory action promotes uterine healing, while its antispasmodic effect helps relieve pain.

Pharmacology
  • Saraca indica: It contains estrogenic compounds such as ketosterol, catechol, and organic calcium compounds along with sodium, potassium, phosphate, magnesium, iron, tannins etc. It has a stimulatory effect on endometrial and ovarian tissue and may produce an estrogen-like action that enhances endometrial repair and helps stop bleeding. It is useful in menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea, and internal bleeding.
  • Woodfordia fruticosa: It contains octacosanol, beta-sitosterol, polystachoside, ellagic acid, and polyphenols. Ellagic acid possesses astringent and haemostatic properties and is useful in dysentery, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, and menorrhagia.
  • Nigella sativa: It is used in the treatment of menstrual and digestive disorders.
  • Cyperus rotundus: It contains essential oils and rich amounts of Cu, Mg, Mn, and Ni. It relieves spasms and pain, acting mainly on the digestive system and uterus. It is used in digestive problems and menstrual complaints.
  • Zingiber officinale: It has anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, antiemetic, antilipid, and antioxidant effects. Its anti-inflammatory action is due to inhibition of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase, reducing leukotriene and prostaglandin synthesis.
  • Berberis aristata: It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities. It is used in menorrhagia and leucorrhoea.
  • Nymphaea lotus: It is astringent, demulcent, stomachic, and restorative, and is used in dysentery, diarrhoea, leucorrhoea, and general debility.
  • Terminalia chebula: It is stomachic, laxative, tonic, and has adaptogenic and anti-stress activity. It promotes digestive power and supports wound healing.
  • Terminalia belerica: It contains tannins, beta-sitosterol, gallic acid, ellagic acid etc. It is used in inflammations, bronchitis, asthma, and dyspepsia.
  • Phyllanthus emblica: It is highly nutritious and an important dietary source of vitamin C, minerals, and amino acids. It is useful in haemorrhage, anaemia, and leucorrhoea.
  • Mangifera indica: It is astringent and anthelmintic, used in diarrhoea, uterine haemorrhage, and other discharges.
  • Adhatoda vasica: It contains vasicine alkaloids and essential oil. It is a rich source of vitamin C and carotene. It has strong coagulant action that helps minimize blood loss and also possesses uterine stimulant activity, acting as a uterine tonic. It is useful in controlling postpartum haemorrhage.
  • Pterocarpus santalinus: It is astringent, antipyretic, and diaphoretic, and is used in inflammation, wound healing, vomiting, and haemophilic disorders associated with menstrual problems.
Dosage Administration

Adult: 1-2 teaspoonful 1-2 times daily after meal or or as directed by the physician.

Contraindicated during pregnancy.
