Bacopa monnieri + Ginkgo biloba + Lecithin

Generic Medicine
Indications

Improves memory and supports concentration and learning. It also enhances mental alertness and cognitive function, promotes healthy blood circulation, improves blood flow to the brain, and may help relieve anxiety and fatigue.

Description

Bacopa monnieri, commonly known as Brahmi and belonging to the Scrophulariaceae family, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It is a small creeping herb with numerous branches that grows in moist soil. The entire plant, including its flowers and fruits, is used for medicinal purposes.

Ginkgo biloba is widely recognized for supporting minor declines in brain function associated with aging. It is commonly used to improve concentration, reduce short-term memory problems related to impaired cerebral circulation, and help manage dizziness, tinnitus, headache, and anxiety-related emotional sensitivity.

Lecithin is a phospholipid complex composed mainly of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylinositol, along with fatty acids and carbohydrates. It is widely used as a nutraceutical ingredient.

Composition

Each capsule contains:

  • Standardized extract of Bacopa monnieri (as bacosides) 135 mg
  • Extract of Ginkgo biloba (as Ginkgo flavonglycosides) 5.7 mg
  • Lecithin 50 mg
Pharmacology

Bacopa monnieri: Enhances neuronal density in the hippocampus, a brain region involved in learning and memory. It modulates the cholinergic system, improving attention, cognitive processing, and working memory.

Ginkgo biloba: Its leaf extract protects neurons from oxidative damage and may help slow tissue degeneration associated with dementia. It improves blood circulation throughout the body and enhances cerebral blood flow by restoring the balance between prostacyclin and thromboxane A2, resulting in better vascular regulation. It may also improve venous tone through phosphodiesterase inhibition and catecholamine release. Additionally, it may reduce beta-amyloid-induced toxicity and neuronal cell death associated with Alzheimer's disease. It has also been proposed to inhibit monoamine oxidase A and B, inhibit catechol-O-methyl transferase, and increase alpha-adrenoreceptor levels in the brain, which naturally decline with age.

Lecithin: Serves as an important source of choline. Phosphatidylcholine acts as a precursor for acetylcholine synthesis, increasing acetylcholine levels in the brain. Since acetylcholine plays a vital role in memory and cognitive function, increasing its availability may improve memory performance. Lecithin has also been studied for use in dementia management, either alone or in combination with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs).
