Monosemicarbazone Adrenochrome
Generic MedicinePharmacology
Adrenochrome Monosemicarbazone is a hemostatic (bleeding-control) agent with a rapid onset of action. It contains a water-soluble form of adrenochrome monosemicarbazone, a stable derivative of adrenochrome, as the active substance. Adrenochrome is an oxidation product of adrenaline. It works by decreasing capillary permeability, which reduces both normal and pathological (abnormal) bleeding time. It achieves capillary hemostasis without affecting respiration or the cardiovascular system. Therefore, despite having an adrenaline-like effect on small blood vessels, it does not produce the general systemic effects associated with sympathomimetic drugs (such as increased heart rate or blood pressure).
Dosage Administration
For prevention and treatment of capillary bleeding, the dose depends on the severity of the condition. Generally, 4–12 tablets are taken daily in divided doses, preferably one hour before meals. Before surgery, treatment should begin on the previous evening, either orally or by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection, usually at a dose of 1.5–5 mg. An additional injection is given about 30 minutes prior to the surgical procedure.
The injection solution should be administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous routes; in emergency situations, it may be given intravenously. Tablets are intended for oral use.
