Alverine Citrate is indicated for:

• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Bowel disturbances related to diverticular disease (formation of small pouches in the intestinal wall)
• Abdominal pain associated with menstrual periods (primary dysmenorrhea)
• Relief of other conditions involving spasms of smooth (involuntary) muscles

Alverine Citrate is a smooth muscle relaxant. Smooth muscles are involuntary muscles found in organs such as the gastrointestinal tract and uterus. Alverine acts directly on these muscles, causing relaxation and thereby reducing spasms. By relaxing intestinal smooth muscles, it helps prevent spasmodic pain seen in conditions like irritable bowel syndrome and diverticular disease. It also acts on uterine smooth muscle, relieving menstrual pain caused by uterine spasms (dysmenorrhea).

Adult: Orally: 60–120 mg 1–3 times daily

No clinically significant drug interactions have been reported with Alverine Citrate.

Contraindicated in patients with paralytic ileus or known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Possible adverse effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, itching, skin rash, and allergic reactions.

Although no teratogenic effects have been reported, its use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended due to limited safety data from preclinical studies.

Alverine Citrate should be avoided in patients with intestinal obstruction or paralytic ileus.

Use in children below 12 years of age is not recommended.

Overdose may lead to hypotension and atropine-like toxic effects. Management involves supportive care similar to that used in atropine poisoning, with particular attention to maintaining blood pressure.

Anticholinergic agents.

Store in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep below 25°C and out of reach of children.
