This combination ophthalmic ointment is a sterile antimicrobial preparation intended for eye use, containing Polymyxin B sulfate and Bacitracin Zinc. Both agents are bactericidal antibiotics. Polymyxin B acts by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, while Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby preventing bacterial growth.

This sterile ophthalmic antimicrobial ointment contains Polymyxin B sulfate and Bacitracin Zinc, both of which exhibit bactericidal activity. Polymyxin B disrupts bacterial cell membrane integrity, whereas Bacitracin interferes with cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.

Apply the ointment every 3 to 4 hourly for 7 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the infection or as directed by the physician.

This ophthalmic ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Polymyxin B sulfate, Bacitracin Zinc, or any related substances that may cause cross-sensitivity.

Although minimal systemic absorption may occur, it is not associated with significant systemic toxicity. Possible side effects include allergic reactions, eye irritation, redness, itching, and swelling.

Classified as Pregnancy Category C. It is not known whether this medication is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
