Mix of 5 Trace Elements

Generic Medicine
Indications
  • JUNIMIN is used as part of intravenous nutrition in preterm and term newborns, infants, and children.
  • It is intended to meet the basal requirements for trace elements.
  • This medication is a solution of glucose and electrolytes (mineral salts).
Composition

JUNIMIN contains:

  • 20 µg/ml of copper
  • 100 µg/ml of zinc
  • 0.5 µg/ml of manganese
  • 1 µg/ml of iodine
  • 2 µg/ml of selenium

It does not contain active ingredients in chloride form that may contribute to metabolic acidosis. Its overall composition follows current recommendations for trace element requirements in children receiving parenteral nutrition.

Pharmacology

Junimin is a sterile parenteral nutrition solution intended for intravenous administration. It is mainly used in patients who cannot obtain adequate nutrition through oral or enteral routes.

It delivers essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract. The nutrients are metabolized to support:

  • Energy production via glucose
  • Protein synthesis and tissue repair via amino acids
  • Cell structure and function via lipids and fatty acids
  • Metabolic regulation through vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes

Junimin supports essential physiological functions such as immune response, cellular repair, and energy production from stored nutrients.

Dosage Administration
  • Patients with baseline or moderately increased requirements: 1 ampoule (10 ml) of JUNIMIN/day
  • Patients with significantly increased TE requirements: 2 ampoules (20 ml) of JUNIMIN/day
  • Diluted in an infusion solution of 50 ml 0.9% NaCl or 50 ml 5% glucose for 10 ml, or 100 ml 0.9% NaCl or 100 ml 5% glucose for 20 ml added to PN mixtures.
  • After dilution, the physico-chemical stability of the diluted solution has been demonstrated for 48 hours at 25°C protected from light.
Side Effects

Disturbances in the elimination of manganese, copper, and zinc may occur, leading to their accumulation and possible overdose. Copper overdose should be considered if symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and gastralgia are present.

Precautions & Warnings

Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of blood glucose, electrolyte levels, renal function, and liver function is essential to prevent complications such as hyperglycemia, metabolic imbalance, or organ dysfunction.

Therapeutic Class

Parenteral nutritional preparations

Storage Conditions

Room temperature: Junimin should be stored at room temperature (usually 15°C to 25°C).
