Bepotastine is a topically active, direct H1-receptor antagonist that blocks histamine activity. It also inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells, thereby reducing allergic responses.
Dosage Administration
The recommended therapy is 1 drop of Bepotastine sterile Eye Drops in the affected eye(s) twice daily.
Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 2 have not been established.
Interactions
No significant drug interactions have been reported. However, caution should be exercised in patients who are sensitive to this medication.
Contraindications
Bepotastine sterile eye drops are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bepotastine besilate or any of the formulation components.
Side Effects
Reported side effects include: Headache, Mild eye irritation, Unpleasant or unusual taste
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Category C. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. It should be used only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk.
Lactation: It is not known whether bepotastine is excreted in breast milk. Caution is advised when used in breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies before using this medication. Do not use these eye drops while wearing contact lenses.
Overdose Effects
In case of excessive use, rinse the eyes thoroughly with warm water. Do not apply additional drops until the next scheduled dose.
