This ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms:

Aerobic Gram-positive microorganisms: Corynebacterium species, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus warneri, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus viridans group.

Aerobic Gram-negative microorganisms: Acinetobacter iwofii, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae.

Moxifloxacin exerts its antimicrobial effect by inhibiting bacterial enzymes topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, while topoisomerase IV plays a crucial role in separating chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division.

One drop in the affected eye(s) 2 times daily for 7 days.

No drug–drug interaction studies have been specifically conducted with Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride.

In 1–6% of patients, the most commonly reported ocular adverse effects include eye irritation, pyrexia, conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye, ocular discomfort, ocular hyperemia, ocular pain, ocular pruritus, subconjunctival hemorrhage, and tearing.

Moxifloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus, as adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women are not available. It is likely excreted in human milk, so caution is advised when administered to breastfeeding mothers.

Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi, as with other anti-infective agents.

Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in infants below 4 months of age have not been established. However, clinical studies suggest it may be safely used in children even younger than 1 month.

Geriatric Use: No overall differences in safety or effectiveness have been observed between elderly and younger patients.

There is minimal risk of adverse effects from accidental ingestion, as a 5 ml bottle contains only 25 mg of Moxifloxacin, which is much lower than the recommended oral dose.

Ophthalmic antibacterial drugs

Store in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination. Do not use after one month of opening.
