Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate + Salicylic Acid

Generic Medicine
Indications

This combination topical gel is indicated for mild to moderate anti-inflammatory and analgesic use, providing symptomatic relief of muscular pain, stiffness, sprains, strains, and pain associated with rheumatic and non-serious arthritic conditions.

Pharmacology

The combination of Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate (MPS) and Salicylic Acid is a topical preparation used for anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in mild to moderate musculoskeletal conditions. MPS is a non-steroidal agent with anti-inflammatory properties, showing a weak inhibition of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesis and an indirect effect on leukotriene B4 (LTB4) production in in vitro studies. It also exhibits anticoagulant, thrombolytic (via potentiation of urokinase activity), and anti-exudative effects through inhibition of hyaluronidase. Salicylic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent with keratolytic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It softens the skin, enhancing penetration of MPS into underlying inflamed tissues. The gel formulation allows easy topical application and massage, helping relieve pain and inflammation locally. The effects of Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate and Salicylic Acid are strictly local.

Dosage Administration

Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years of age: Two to six inches (5-15 cm) to be massaged to the affected area up to four times a day.

Use in Childhood and Adolescence: Should not be used on children below 12 years old.

Such interactions may lead to breakthrough bleeding or contraceptive failure. There is also a risk of increased serum potassium levels when used with drugs such as ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, heparin, aldosterone antagonists, and NSAIDs.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient, aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), especially in patients with a history of asthma.
