Naftifine cream is an allylamine antifungal indicated for the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton rubrum.
Naftifine Hydrochloride
Generic MedicineDescription
Naftifine is a synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the allylamine class. In vitro studies demonstrate activity against various dermatophytes including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, Microsporum audouini, and Microsporum gypseum. It also shows fungistatic activity against Candida species such as Candida albicans. Clinically, it is used primarily for the infections mentioned in the indications.
Pharmacology
Naftifine Hydrochloride is thought to inhibit the fungal enzyme squalene 2,3-epoxidase, disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis. This results in depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of squalene in fungal cells, leading to impaired cell membrane function and inhibition of fungal growth.
Dosage Administration
Apply a thin layer of Naftifine Hydrochloride Cream once-daily to the affected areas plus half inch margin of healthy surrounding skin for 2 weeks or as directed by the physician.
Use in Children and Adolescents: The safety and effectiveness of Naftifine Hydrochloride have been established in the age group of 12-17 years with interdigital tinea pedis and tinea cruris.
