Nandrolone Phenylpropionate is indicated as

• an adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathological conditions characterized by a negative nitrogen balance,
• for the palliative treatment of selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women
• and for osteoporosis.

Nandrolone Phenylpropionate is an injectable anabolic preparation. The active substance is nandrolone. The phenylpropionate ester provides a duration of action of approximately one week after injection. Nandrolone is structurally related to the male sex hormone. Compared with testosterone, it exhibits enhanced anabolic activity and reduced androgenic effects, as demonstrated in animal studies and receptor-binding research, and confirmed in clinical use.

In humans, it has a nitrogen-sparing effect that supports protein metabolism. This is useful in conditions associated with protein deficiency such as chronic debilitating diseases, major surgery, and severe trauma. In these situations, it acts as a supportive adjunct to specific therapy and dietary management. In selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women, it has been reported to produce objective tumour regression lasting for several months. It also helps relieve bone pain in patients with osteoporosis. A related ester, nandrolone decanoate, has been shown to increase bone mineral content in these patients. At recommended doses, androgenic effects such as virilisation are relatively uncommon. It does not contain the C17-alpha alkyl group, which is associated with liver dysfunction and cholestasis.

As an adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathologic conditions characterized by a negative nitrogen balance: Recommended dose is 25–50 mg every week.

For the palliative treatment of selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women: Recommended dose is 50 mg every week.

Osteoporosis: Recommended dose is 50 mg every week.

For an optimal therapeutic effect, it is necessary to administer adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals and protein in a calorie-rich diet. Nandrolone Phenylpropionate should be administered by deep intramuscular injection.

Anabolic steroids may enhance glucose tolerance and reduce the requirement for insulin or other antidiabetic drugs in diabetic patients.

Contraindicated during pregnancy, and in cases of known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or male breast cancer.

High doses, prolonged use, or frequent administration may lead to:

• Virilisation in sensitive women such as hoarseness, acne, hirsutism, and increased libido; in prepubertal boys increased frequency of erections and enlargement of the penis; and in girls increased pubic hair and clitoral enlargement. Hoarseness may be an early sign of vocal changes, which may progress to a persistent and sometimes irreversible deepening of the voice.
• Amenorrhoea
• Suppression of spermatogenesis
• Premature closure of epiphyses
• Fluid retention

This medicine is contraindicated during pregnancy due to the risk of masculinisation of the foetus. There is insufficient evidence regarding its use during breastfeeding to determine safety for the infant or its effect on milk production.

If signs of virilisation appear, treatment should be discontinued, preferably after consultation with the patient.
Patients with the following conditions should be carefully monitored:

• Latent or overt cardiac failure, renal impairment, hypertension, or migraine, as anabolic steroids may cause fluid retention.
• Incomplete growth, since high doses may accelerate epiphyseal closure.
• Skeletal metastases of breast cancer, where hypercalcaemia may occur spontaneously or due to therapy; this may indicate tumour response but should be treated first before continuing therapy.
• Liver dysfunction.

Use of anabolic steroids to enhance athletic performance may pose serious health risks and should be discouraged.

Acute toxicity of Nandrolone Phenylpropionate in animals is very low. There are no reported cases of acute overdose in humans.
