Calcium Dobesilate capsules are indicated for the treatment of hemorrhoidal syndrome and microcirculatory disorders of arteriovenous origin. It is used in managing symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency in the lower limbs such as pain, cramps, paresthesia, edema, venous stasis, and skin changes (dermatosis). It is also indicated in microangiopathies, particularly diabetic retinopathy, and may be used as an adjunct therapy in superficial thrombophlebitis.

Calcium Dobesilate is a vasoactive agent that acts on endothelial function, capillary permeability, and blood viscosity. It helps reduce excessive capillary permeability, inhibits platelet aggregation, and lowers blood viscosity, thereby improving microcirculation and enhancing blood flow to tissues.

Calcium Dobesilate exerts its effects by improving endothelial integrity, reducing capillary permeability, and decreasing blood viscosity. It also inhibits platelet aggregation, which contributes to better microcirculation and improved oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues and organs.

One to two 500 mg capsules daily should be taken with the main meals. Treatment duration, which is generally between a few weeks and several months, depends on the disease and its evolution. Dosage should be adapted individually according to the severity of the case.

Calcium Dobesilate capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Calcium Dobesilate. In patients with severe renal impairment requiring dialysis, dose adjustment is necessary. In very rare cases, Calcium Dobesilate may cause agranulocytosis, likely related to hypersensitivity reactions. This condition may present with symptoms such as high fever, infections of the oral cavity (e.g., tonsillitis), sore throat, and inflammation in the anogenital region. Patients should be advised to immediately report any signs of infection to their physician. In such cases, prompt blood count monitoring and discontinuation of therapy are essential.

Occasionally, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and diarrhea, skin reactions, fever, and joint pain may occur. Very rarely, agranulocytosis has been reported. These effects are usually reversible upon discontinuation of treatment. If gastrointestinal symptoms occur, the dose may be reduced or treatment temporarily stopped. In cases of skin reactions, fever, joint pain, or changes in blood counts, treatment should be discontinued and a physician consulted, as these may indicate allergic reactions.

There are no adequate studies available in pregnant women or animals. Since it is unknown whether Calcium Dobesilate crosses the placenta in humans, it should only be used if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Calcium Dobesilate is excreted into breast milk in very small amounts. As a precaution, either breastfeeding or treatment should be discontinued.

Dose reduction is recommended in patients with severe renal insufficiency requiring dialysis. In rare cases, this medication may reduce white blood cell count (agranulocytosis), which can impair the body’s ability to fight infections. Patients experiencing symptoms such as cough, sore throat, fever, or other flu-like symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.

The clinical symptoms of overdose are not well established.
