Composition

  • Calcium Phosphate BP 715 mg (equivalent to 250 mg elemental Calcium)
  • Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) USP 250 IU
Pharmacology

This formulation combines Calcium Phosphate with Vitamin D3 to support calcium metabolism. Calcium is absorbed from the intestine into the bloodstream and subsequently deposited in bones. Vitamin D3 plays a vital role in facilitating active calcium absorption in the intestines and maintaining bone health. Without adequate Vitamin D3, only about 10–15% of dietary calcium can be absorbed by the body.

Dosage Administration

Two tablets once or twice daily with plenty of water or food as directed by the physician.

Interactions
  • Concomitant use of intravenous ceftriaxone and calcium may cause serious complications affecting the lungs and kidneys. Calcium should not be administered intravenously within 48 hours of ceftriaxone administration.
  • Calcium may decrease the absorption of tetracycline and fluoride preparations; therefore, at least a 3-hour interval should be maintained between these medications. Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary calcium excretion, while phenytoin, barbiturates, and glucocorticoids may reduce Vitamin D3 activity. Certain foods such as spinach, cereals, milk, and dairy products may also decrease calcium absorption.
Contraindications

Calcium supplementation is contraindicated in conditions such as hyperparathyroidism, hypercalcemia, constipation, kidney stones, and severe dehydration.

Side Effects

Occasionally, gastrointestinal disturbances such as flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, and allergic reactions may occur. Hypercalcemia with prolonged use has been rarely reported.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This preparation should be used in pregnant and lactating women only under medical supervision. Studies indicate that calcium and Vitamin D3 are generally well tolerated in these populations.

Precautions & Warnings

In cases of mild hypercalciuria, dose reduction is usually sufficient to normalize serum calcium levels. Patients with kidney stones or a history of nephrolithiasis should be advised to maintain adequate fluid intake.

Overdose Effects

In case of overdose with calcium and Vitamin D3, medical consultation should be sought immediately.

Therapeutic Class
