Pridinol Mesilate is a centrally acting muscle relaxant used for the symptomatic relief of muscle spasm. It helps reduce muscle stiffness and discomfort associated with painful muscular conditions. It is also available as the hydrochloride salt for its antimuscarinic action and may be used in the management of parkinsonism.
Dosage Administration
The recommended dose is 1.5-3 mg pridinol 3 times daily. The administration is independent of meals, with the onset of the effect being faster when the medicine is taken before a meal. However, if the patient suffers from low blood pressure, take the tablets after meals to reduce the risk of fainting. Or as directed by the registered physician.
Use in Children and Adolescents: No data are available on the use of Pridinol in children and adolescents.
Interactions
Pridinol may enhance the effects of medicines from the anticholinergic group. These include certain drugs used for overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, asthma treatment, and Parkinson’s disease.
Contraindications
Pridinol is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients, glaucoma, prostate enlargement (prostatic hypertrophy), urinary retention syndrome, gastrointestinal obstruction, arrhythmia, and during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Side Effects
Common side effects: Abdominal pain, arrhythmias, weakness (asthenia), dizziness, dry mouth, headache, low blood pressure (hypotension), and nausea.
Rare side effects: Difficulty focusing, blurred vision, diarrhea, vomiting, hypersensitivity reactions such as itching, skin redness, swelling, or shortness of breath, reduced attention, coordination problems, taste disturbances, anxiety, and depression.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Pridinol should not be used during the first 3 months of pregnancy. During the later months, it should only be used if clearly necessary and under strict medical supervision.
Lactation: There is no sufficient data regarding the passage of Pridinol into breast milk. Therefore, its use during breastfeeding should be avoided.
Precautions & Warnings
Use with caution in elderly patients, those with liver or kidney impairment, and patients with hypotension, as the risk of circulatory problems such as fainting may increase. Pridinol contains lactose; therefore, patients with rare hereditary galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this medicine.
Overdose Effects
Immediate medical attention is required in case of overdose.
