Sodium fluoride is an antiseptic and anti-cavity mouthwash which:
Sodium fluoride is a cariostatic agent used to prevent dental caries. It may also be used as a fluoride source in total parenteral nutrition.
Rinse (gargle) with fall strength Sodium fluoride for 30 seconds with 20 ml (with the help of supplied cup) two times daily (morning and evening). Do not swallow. Don’t eat or drink within 30 minutes after rinsing with Sodium fluoride restoring.
Absorption of fluoride may be reduced by aluminium, calcium, and magnesium salts.
Do not use 1 mg tablets in children under 3 years of age or when drinking water fluoride content is ≥ 0.3 ppm.
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur including rash, nausea, and vomiting. Products containing stannous fluoride may cause tooth staining.
No data available.
Long-term use of large amounts of fluoride may lead to dental fluorosis and bone changes; recommended dose should not be exceeded. Use with caution in renal impairment and during pregnancy.
Acute poisoning may cause salty or soapy taste, excessive salivation, gastrointestinal disturbance, abdominal pain, weakness, drowsiness, faintness, and shallow breathing. Severe cases may include hypocalcaemia, hypomagnesaemia, hyperkalaemia, tremors, convulsions, cardiac arrhythmias, shock, respiratory arrest, and cardiac failure. Death may occur within 2–4 hours. Treatment includes gastric lavage with lime water or calcium-containing solutions to precipitate fluoride. Maintain high urine output. Slow IV calcium gluconate may be used for hypocalcaemia and tetany. Magnesium sulfate may treat hypomagnesaemia, and aluminium hydroxide may reduce fluoride absorption. Haemodialysis may be considered. Chronic poisoning may cause skeletal fluorosis, leading to bone pain, stiffness, limited movement, and deformities. In children, excessive long-term intake may cause dental fluorosis with mottled enamel.
