Sucralose

Generic Medicine
Indications

Sucralose is a sugar substitute used as a sweetener in various foods and beverages such as tea, coffee, pudding, dairy products, jelly, fruit juices, desserts, and both hot and cold drinks. Being a zero-calorie sweetener, it is suitable for health-conscious individuals. Sucralose is also a preferred choice for diabetic patients who need to control blood glucose levels. The FDA has confirmed that sucralose is safe for use by everyone, including children, pregnant women, and individuals aiming to reduce calorie intake.

Pharmacology

Sucralose is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener, approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar. It is derived from sucrose, where three hydroxyl groups are replaced by three chlorine atoms. Because it is sugar-based, sucralose has a sugar-like taste. The strong carbon–chlorine bonds make it highly stable and prevent it from being metabolized for energy, resulting in zero calories. The chlorine atoms also provide heat stability, allowing sucralose to remain stable during cooking and baking without losing sweetness. It is not metabolized for energy in the body and is excreted unchanged after consumption. Sucralose does not cause tooth decay and has no effect on carbohydrate metabolism or insulin secretion. It does not cross the blood-brain barrier, placental barrier, or mammary glands, so it has no known effect on fetal or neonatal development. It does not interfere with glucose absorption, carbohydrate metabolism, or insulin release, making it safe for diabetic patients.

Dosage Administration

The acceptable daily intake of sucralose is 5-15 mg/kg body weight. Normally 1 tablet (8 mg) in a cup of tea or coffee is enough to sweeten the drink.

The acceptable daily intake (ADI) of Sucralose Sweet Drops is 5-15 mg per kg of body weight. Each drops sweetness is like one teaspoon of sugar. Normally one drop in a cup of tea or coffee is enough to sweeten the drink or as directed by the physician.
