Azelaic Acid cream is indicated for the topical management of mild to moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris.

Azelaic acid exhibits antimicrobial activity against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This effect is likely due to inhibition of microbial protein synthesis. Additionally, azelaic acid helps normalize keratinization, which contributes to its anticomedonal effect and overall therapeutic benefit.

After the skin is thoroughly washed and patted dry, a thin film of Azelaic Acid should be gently but thoroughly massaged into the affected areas twice daily, in the morning and evening. The hands should be washed following application. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients under 12 years of age have not been established. Or as directed by the physician.

Azelaic acid is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azelaic acid or any of its formulation components.

Mild local skin reactions such as redness, scaling, itching, or a burning sensation may occur, particularly at the beginning of therapy. These effects are generally mild and tend to subside with continued use.

Azelaic acid is classified as FDA Pregnancy Category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Caution is advised when administering this medication to breastfeeding mothers.

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes; if accidental exposure occurs, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
